Birds of a feather flock together

by Admin

The Adage goes thus "Birds of a feather flock together", this veritable scenario is emerging in the South-Asian political arena today. Confronting China's newfound belligerence and undeterred run in the South-Asian landscape of late, has prompted these three divergent nation states spread across several thousands of kilometers come together under a Trilateral agreement to counter mighty Red Dragon's aggressive and assertive military ambitions.

China has been a tenuous thorn and a anathema for India for several decades now, however unlike Pakistan, China's stance against India is understated and less confrontational. It waves its flashy double edged sword against India only when there are strong imperatives to underline its foreign policy postulations.

Actuated with Russia's new found camaraderie with China, adding its substantial and opportunistic defense relationship, considering a marked maturity in China's own defense industrial growth, and inevitably US playing truant by keeping itself busy in the middle-east, has held India in much incertitude and trepidation. India found it imperative to forge this alliance to bring a semblance of equitable parity in the balance of power structure. Such an alignment would bring stability to the Asia-Pacific region, if and when approached, Australia can also pitch in ample collateral deterrence, since they also view China as a potential threat to its interests. Chinese posturing around its maritime limits and beyond stems from its pursuance to enhance its strategic and economic stakes in the region rich in hydrocarbons. Vietnam is crucially impacted by Chinese military aggression in the South China Sea maritime expanse, besides other nations around the region are also affected who have several territorial disputes with China.

Vietnam is placed in a crucial Geo strategic location and is a pivotal state in the South China Sea region but it stands between China and its newly acquired military pugnacity. Coupled with China's phenomenal economic and sustained military growth over the years and its persistent intentions to dominate the vast strategic maritime expanse has made it exigent for India and Japan to shoulder their collective responsibilities to act as a counter balancing force to effect a safe and peaceful security environment in Asia. India's newly aggressive foreign policy shift under the new proactive government and Japan reposing a refurbished confidence in India's power play is the perfect foil to check China's resolute expansive designs.
